Celosia Seeds

An unusual and interesting flower, celosia creates dramatic displays in the garden and in the vase. Plumed varieties such as Eden Brothers' Mixed Pampas Plume Celosia Seeds, Golden Plume Celosia Seeds, and Scarlet Plume Celosia Seeds mimic flames erupting from compact, multi-branching plants. Eden Brothers' Cristata Mix Celosia Seeds, commonly known as cockscomb, is an example of a unique flower mix, truly unlike any other!

• 15 celosia seed varieties
• Annual with long lasting and striking colors
• Excellent for cut or dried flowers
• Soft, feathery blooming plumes

Great as cut flowers, plant celosia seeds close enough where you can cut and enjoy inside. Celosia, commonly known as "woolflowers", can also be dried, as they keep their color long after their prime. Add interest and intrigue to your garden by planting celosia! They'll add beauty to beds and borders, container planting, and cottage gardens. Celosia blooms attract bees and other pollinators so plant these beauties near a vegetable garden to ensure pollination of your vegetable plants.

Celosia comes from the Greek word keleos, meaning "burning", referring to the flame-like flower heads. Because of this, celosia flowers are often considered a symbol of boldness. Sending a bunch of celosia to someone can represent a means of sending courage and well wishes on new endeavors.

In addition to its aesthetic and symbolic purposes, celosias are also edible! Both the leaves and young shoots of this plant are often cooked and used in soups and stews. They may be boiled or steamed and eaten as a side dish, as well. Their light, spicy scent accents the hint of bitterness in their spinach-like flavor. Grow celosias in your garden this year and see.. (taste?) for yourself!

Sow celosia seeds outdoors after all danger of frost has passed or sow indoors, six to eight weeks prior to the last spring frost. Celosias perform best in full sun in moist, but well-drained soils. Sow seeds about 1/4 inch deep and water thoroughly, being sure to keep soil moist during germination (10 to 15 days). If direct sowing or when transplanting seedlings, space plants about eight to ten inches apart. Add a general purpose fertilizer once or twice a month and pinch back the plant to promote more growth. Celosia can range in size from dwarf varieties that grow a mere four to six inches tall to other vigorous varieties reaching heights of over three feet tall.
